Azusa has earned a spot in Tuesday’s CIF-SS Division 8 semifinal round.
The Aztecs secured a 9-1 victory over Santa Clarita Christian.
The Cardinals got one run in the bottom of the first inning at Hart High School.
But Josh Torres and Zach Huizar would combine to shut them out the rest of the way.
Torres went five innings, and he allowed one unearned run on three hits.
He issued one walk and struck out 11 SCC batters.
Huizar retired all six batters he faced.
Gregory Michlin singled and scored the Cardinals only run.
It actually happened when Wyatt Shields reached base on a dropped third strike.
Zane Stauffer got the loss after allowing eight runs on nine hits over four innings.
Stauffer walked three and struck out five.
Torres helped his own cause, going 2-for-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI.
Jacob Elliot walked, doubled twice, scored a pair of runs and had one RBI.
Zach Huizar singled twice and scored.
Isaac Miranda went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.
Edward Romero had an RBI double and scored.
Matt Huizar walked and had an RBI single.
Joseph Durand doubled in a run and scored.
Terry Chavez walked and had an RBI single in the top of the second.
Up next: The Aztecs will face Edgewood on Tuesday for a spot in the D-8 final.
EHS defeated Apple Valley, 11-8, in their quarterfinal round contest.
