College Baseball:
One day after collectively knocking Cuesta College out of their three-team double elimination super regional, Mt. SAC and Palomar met up Friday in a race to two wins.
And talk about drama.
Trailing 8-4 in the top of the eighth inning, former Damien star Kaden Moeller hit a grand slam to even the game at 8-8.
In the bottom of the 10th, however, Luke Matthews scored on a wild pitch to secure a 9-8 victory for the Comets.
Kyle Calzadiaz went 5 1/3 innings and he allowed four runs (two earned) on seven hits.
Calzadiaz walked three and struck out four Palomar batters.
Matt Viveros was charged with three runs on one hit and two walks over 2/3 of an inning.
Viveros surrendered a three-run home run to Makana Olaso in the bottom of the seventh to give Palomar a 7-4 lead.
Jaden Mackowiak got the loss after allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits over three innings.
He walked one and fanned a pair of Comets’ batters.
It goes without saying that five MSAC errors that cost the boys from Walnut three unearned runs was lethal.
Ryan Rivera had a pair of doubles and scored two runs.
Olaso went 2-for-4 with a walk and the three RBIs.
Colby Rafail walked, scored and had a two-run double.
Carter Jorissen went 3-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.

Herrod issued a pair of walks and struck out seven.
Evan Langer surrendered two runs on five hits over 1 1/3 innings.
He walked two and fanned one.
Lucas Smith went a perfect 10th inning, including one strikeout.
Moeller drove in five of Mt. SAC’s eight runs, including the grand slam and a sac fly in the top of the third to give the Mounties a 1-0 lead.
Joey Rossetti singled twice and scored two runs.
Blake Hagerty went 4-for-5 with a double, run and one RBI.
Daniel Briones drew a pair of walks and had an RBI single in the third.
Gibby Morales went 3-for-5 and scored.
