Baseball:
Los Osos won its first playoff game since 2017.
The Grizzlies secured a 14-6 slugfest victory over visiting Apple Valley in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs.
The game featured 20 runs, 28 hits and seven pitchers.
LOHS edged AVHS in extra-base hits, 6-5, including a 3-2 advantage in home runs.
After Apple Valley scored once in the top of the second inning, Los Osos plated 10 unanswered runs between the second and fourth innings, and they wouldn’t trail again.
Reagan Samples went five innings, and he allowed two runs on six hits.
Samples walked one and fanned four Sun Devils’ batters.
Wyatt Mohler provided two innings in relief and he allowed an unearned run on one hit.
Mohler didn’t walk anyone and fanned two.
Noah Celie walked, doubled, homered and drove in two.
Phoenix Matsumoto went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and one run.
Isaiah Reveron singled twice, hit a solo HR and scored a pair of runs.
Luis Lechuga had an RBI single.
Ryan Martinez singled twice and scored.
LOHS scored four runs or more off three Apple Valley pitchers.
Ryan Martinez was charged with five runs on seven hits and one walk over 2 1/3 innings.
Beau Lloyd lasted three innings and he surrendered five runs on eight hits and a walk.
And Ethan Yazzie was touched up for four runs on three hits and a walk in just 1/3 of an inning.
Reagan Samples went 4-for-4 with an HR, two runs and four RBIs.
Hunter Meyer singled, homered, scored twice and drove in three.
Roberto Topete singled twice, scored two runs and hit a solo HR.
Wyatt Mohler had an RBI double and scored.
Joshua Chairez singled, doubled, scored twice and had one RBI.
Austin Ziello singled, scored and drove in one.
Jake Monsen went 2-for-4 with a run and one RBI.
Mason Overacker singled and scored.
Up next: The Grizzlies travel Cerritos on Tuesday for a second-round game.
The Dons (21-6) thumped Hesperia Christian, 13-4, in their first-round game.
