West Covina entered the CIF-SS Division 6 playoffs having been swept by Charter Oak in a two-game series that determined the No. 2 seed out of the Valle Vista League.
WCHS traveled to Fountain Valley on Thursday and the Bulldogs picked up their bats in the top of the fourth trailing Los Amigos, 2-0.
But they scored once in the fourth and West Covina got four more in the sixth to secure a 5-3 victory.
Edwin Segovia went five innings to earn the win.
Segovia allowed three runs on six hits.
He issued just one walk and struck out six LAHS batters.
Vincent Marichi provided two scoreless and hitless innings in relief to earn the save.
Marichi walked one and struck out four.
Offensively, Jacob Patino singled and drove in two runs.
Garrett Mori singled, doubled and scored.
Segovia helped his own cause with a double, run and one RBI.
Christian Salinas went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Jacob Nguyen singled and scored.
Marcus Mayweather hit a solo HR.
Up next: The Bulldogs will host top-seeded Costa Mesa on Tuesday.
The Mustangs (22-6) edged Garden Grove, 5-4, in their first-round game.
