Baseball:

What a difference three days has made for the St. Francis baseball program.

The Golden Knights began the week sitting in dead last in the eight-team Mission League standings.

SFHS, however, secured 23-3 and 5-2 victories over Loyola on Monday and Wednesday, respectively.

And that has allowed St. Francis to climb all the way up to the No. 4 spot.

Nate Stern got the loss after allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits over five innings.

Stern issued three walks and fanned seven St. Francis batters.

Jimmy Levy provided two scoreless innings in relief, allowing one hit, walking one and striking out two.

Jayden Kim had a two-run pinch-hit single that gave St. Francis a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning.

Jordan Lewallen walked, and his two-run triple doubled the advantage to 4-0.

In the two wins this week, Lewallen has driven in eight runs.

Kalani Quiroz singled twice and scored.

Jordan Viramontes and Dane Shepard walked and scored one run apiece.

Holden Deitch singled, and Brody Ruyle scored once for the Golden Knights.

Aiden Mahoney went the distance to earn the win.

Mahoney surrendered two runs on three hits.

He didn’t issue a walk and struck out three Loyola batters.

Mahoney needed 92 pitches to finish what he started.

Donnie Morgan hit a two-run HR in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Magnus Mayer singled and scored.

Augie Lopez singled to account for the rest of the Loyola offense.

Up next: The Golden Knights will go for the three-game sweep on Friday at 3:30 at the Glendale Sports Complex.
