It’s been a rough beginning to the 2024 season for the Damien and Charter Oak baseball programs.
Entering Saturday’s contest in La Verne, COHS (1-6-1) is off to its slowest start in 16 years, and Damien hadn’t won in 14 days.
The Spartans would change that.
DHS scored twice in the bottom of the third inning, and they got three more in the fifth to claim a 5-2 victory over the Chargers.
Andrew Carter went three scoreless innings, and he allowed three hits.
Carter issued one walk and fanned four.
Julian Hines also provided three innings, and he surrendered one unearned run on four hits.
Hines walked one and fanned one COHS batter.
Troy Lopez went one inning, and he allowed one run on two hits.
Lopez didn’t walk a batter and registered one strikeout.
Ty Tancredi went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.
Eli Bechtel walked, singled and drove in a run.
Hines singled twice and scored a pair of runs.
JT Riley went 2-for-4, and he scored one run.
Nikko Paoletto and Matthew Flores singled and scored one run apiece.
Up next: According to their MaxPreps page, Damien is scheduled to travel to Chino Hills on 3/18 to open Baseline League play.
Charter Oak will host Los Altos on Wednesday at 3:30.
