Girls Soccer:
It’s been quite the season for the Monrovia girls soccer program.
The Wildcats secured a first Rio Hondo League championship in 10 years.
Fast forward a couple weeks, and Monrovia has earned a spot in Saturday’s CIF-SS Division 4 semifinal round.
The girls in green edged Ocean View, 2-1, in Wednesday’s home match.
Amara Mercado gave Monrovia a 1-0 lead late in the first half on this amazing free kick.
Audrey Mendoza gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead with her second-half goal that was assisted by Ava Hackworth.
Ocean View scored late in the game to make it more interesting, but
Captain Sofia Chiovare did what she has done all season and controlled the middle with fellow senior and captain, Audrey Mendoza, and sophomore, Naeemah Browne.
This MHS team seems to have a perfect blend of upperclassmen and underclassmen.
They also got solid play in goal from Miya Whoolery.
