It wasn’t Rio Hondo Prep’s night.
For the first time in 2023, the Kares were on the wrong end of a lopsided score.
Brentwood scored the game’s first 34 points and defeated visiting RHP, 34-13, in a Gold Coast League showdown.
The Kares out-rushed the Eagles, 172-101, but Brentwood had a 258-4 advantage through the air.
Boone Lourd completed 16-of-23 for 258 yards.
Lourd had TD passes of 6 (Matthew Michaels), 31 (Davis Wong), 3 (Dylan Karz) and 18 yards (Karz).
Lourd also had 45 yards rushing on six carries for the first-place Eagles.
RHP scored a pair of TD’s in the final two minutes.
Nate Curtis had a game-high 131 yards rushing on 14 carries, including a 1-yard TD run.
Caeden Holcomb carried the ball nine times for 17 yards.
Holcomb had a 2-yard TD run with 1:12 remaining in the game.
Brentwood had a 359-176 advantage in total offense, and improved to 2-0 in Gold Coast League games.
Alex Mustain completed 1-of-11 passes for four yards.
Joshua Curtis and Caeden Holcomb led the RHP defense with five tackles apiece.
Up next: Rio Hondo Prep closes out the regular season next Friday when they host Campbell Hall.
The Vikings (1-7, 0-2) had a week-nine bye.
