Boys Athlete of the Week:
While most area programs have played six games, the Monrovia football team has just four games under their belt.
That’s due to a game canceled by Palm Springs after the heavy rain that saturated the desert and an early-season bye week for the Wildcats.
MHS has looked pretty good and had stretches where it hasn’t been so great.
But one thing that’s been solid from the jump is the play of their quarterback, Brian Salazar.

On Thursday, Salazar threw for 471 yards and led Monrovia to a 42-29 nonleague victory at San Dimas.
In that game, the lanky signal caller tossed three TD passes and didn’t turn the ball over.
The Wildcats offense scored nearly three times what San Dimas’ defense had averaged (15 points) allowing through their first five games.
Through the first four games of his senior season, Salazar has thrown 14 TD’s and been picked four times.
He averages 360 yards through the air and has already thrown for 1,433 yards.
Salazar also boasts a 60-percent completion ratio.
Up next: Monrovia will host Temple City on Friday in the Rio Hondo League opener.
The Rams (3-2) are coming off a 42-28 setback at San Gabriel.
