Football:
Thursday’s nonleague showdown between La Salle and their host from Bonita was a mismatch from the start.
The Lancers are down a few players and the Bearcats have arguably their deepest team in at least five years.
Jayden Montenegro continued to find the end zone early and often.
Montenegro scored on a 49-yard sprint into the east end zone on the first drive of the game, and BHS would cruise to a 44-0 victory.
Bonita led 30-0 in the first quarter and the entire second half was played with a running clock.
Montenegro caught 20-and-13-yard TD passes from freshman, Daniel Mielke.
And the Bearcats senior has seven total TD’s in the last two weeks alone.
Noah Mikhail scored on a 33-yard run.
Perhaps the most fitting way to describe this game was a two-play sequence late in the first quarter.
Already leading 21-0, a bad snap out of the end zone cost La Salle two points, and on the ensuing kickoff, Connor Milici ran it back 70 yards for a TD.
Cole Parra closed out the night with a 1-yard TD run in the second quarter.
While this wasn’t their week, La Salle will get healthy and Ben Buys is a terrific coach, who will have them ready for league play.
Up next: The Lancers travel to Alhambra on Thursday, and the Bearcats face San Dimas (1-1) next Saturday.
Below the stats are some scoring plays and video interviews.
