Marshall Fundamental suffered a rough end to a great season.
The Mission Valley League champs surrendered two runs in the sixth and seventh innings, and fell at Montebello, 5-4, in Tuesday’s CIF-SS Division 5 second-round showdown.
Ethan Sparks probably deserved a better fate.
Sparks went 6 1/3 innings and allowed five runs, but only two were earned runs.
He surrendered eight hits, walked four and struck out a pair of Montebello batters.
Isiah Cervantes walked, doubled and drove in three.
Cesar Esparza walked, singled, scored and had two RBIs.
Aaron Martinez singled, doubled and scored.
Gustavo Salazar went 2-for-4 with a double and scored one run.
Adrian Roman walked twice, singled and scored.
Armando Godinez left the game trailing after going five innings and allowing four runs (one earned) on three hits.
Godinez walked one and struck out six Eagles’ batters.
Adrian Roman went two hitless and scoreless innings to earn the win.
He didn’t issue a walk and fanned two Marshall players.
Nick Chew walked, doubled and scored.
Caleb Delgado singled and scored.
Wes Pendleton doubled, scored and had one RBI.
Nate Callaway scored and had one RBI.
Trevor Lain and Ryan Pandullo had one RBI apiece.
