Baseball:
Unless you’ve played the game, it’s difficult to accurately describe the intensity of playoff baseball.
And there’s nothing quite like staging a late rally to save one’s season.
Corona was able to leave the SGV happy after scoring two runs in the top of the sixth and one each in the seventh and ninth innings to defeat San Dimas, 6-5, in the second round of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs.
Jude Favela went 5 1/3 innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits.
Favela walked one and struck out four Panthers’ batters.
Kody King provided 2 2/3 innings in relief and he was charged with an unearned run.
King didn’t allow a hit, issued one walk, and he registered one strikeout.
Corona got one run off Kasen Khansarinia on one hit and a walk.
Khansarinia struck out two CHS batters.
Jared Saldana led off the top of the ninth with a walk and moved to second on an Ethan Hill bunt.
Two batters later, Anthony Murphy’s two-out double plated Saldana with what turned out to be the game winning run.
Murphy finished with a walk, the double, one run and two RBIs.
Billy Carlson doubled and scored.
Ethan Schiefelbein had a double and an RBI.
Josh Springer and Sam Burgess singled, scored and had one RBI apiece.
Gavin Duke was charged with five unearned runs on six hits and a walk over his 4 2/3 innings.
Duke struck out three SDHS batters.
Jake Skelskey would provide 4 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the win.
He allowed two hits, walked one and fanned three Saints.
Ryan Castro hit a three-run blast in the bottom of the fifth inning to give San Dimas a 5-2 lead.
Rocco Regan singled twice.
Vaughn Coleman went 2-for-5, scored and had an RBI.
Jayden Medina walked, singled and scored.
John Nauertz had a single and an RBI.
Ryder Young walked and scored.
King had a single for the Saints.
