Baseball:

Glendora made the 176-mile roundtrip drive to picturesque Barstow and didn’t get the result they wanted.

Gabriel Hernandez and Michael Moses were locked in a pitcher’s duel, and Hernandez and the Aztecs prevailed, 2-1, in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs.

Moses couldn’t have done much more to give GHS a chance to win, as he’s done all season.

Moses went the distance, and he allowed two runs on nine hits.

He didn’t issue a walk and struck out four.

Of his 77 pitches, Moses threw 52 strikes.

And at the plate, Moses hit a solo HR in the top of the sixth inning to account for the lone Glendora run.

To his credit, Hernandez was outstanding as well.

He went seven innings, allowing one run on three hits.

Hernandez walked one and struck out six Tartans.

Joseph Gilkeson singled and doubled to account for the other two Tartans’ base hits.

  1. Hernandez did his part at the plate, going 2-for-3, with a single, double and scored both Barstow runs.

Malachi Maestas and Evan Hernandez had RBI base hits for the Aztecs.
