Baseball:
Sterling Patick once again lived up to his first name.
Patick tossed a one-hit shutout, as South Hills opened the CIF D-2 playoffs with a 6-0 victory over visting Great Oak.
Patick walked two and struck out nine.
He needed 99 pitches to finish what he started, and 66 went for strikes.
Dylan Fien’s single was all the Wolfpack offense could muster.
Braden Wauschek got the loss, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits over three innings.
He walked one and fanned three South Hills batters.
Noah Malone singled, doubled and drove in three runs.
Matt Moreno singled twice, scored and had two RBIs.
Paul Vazquez and Marcos Rosales singled and scored one run apiece.
Steven Jimenez hit a solo HR.
And Malaki Pelayo walked twice, singled and scored.
Up next: The Huskies travel to Charter Oak on Tuesday.
COHS trailed 4-0 in Irvine, but rallied to defeat Woodbridge, 11-5, on Friday.
