Baseball:
Ayala certainly earned their share of the Palomares League championship this week.
The Bulldogs swept Glendora, and Bonita claimed the other half by sweeping Colony.
On Thursday, AHS got single runs in the top of the seventh and eighth innings to edge Glendora, 3-2.
Michael Moses pitched his butt off, allowing an unearned run on seven hits over six innings.
Moses walked one and fanned three.
John Nolan surrendered two runs on four hits over two innings.
He issued one walk and struck out a pair of Bulldogs.
Trailing 2-1 in the top of the seventh, Marcus Galvan singled and he moved to second on a sac bunt from Aiden Erlandsen.
Ethan Nunez followed with a base hit to tie the game at 2-2.
In the top of the eighth, Jake Lemoine and Thomas Estepa singled and they were moved over on Elijah’s Duarte’s sac bunt.
Galvan’s sac fly scored Lemoine with what turned out to be the game winning run.
Nunez went 2-for-4 with a double.
Lemoine also went 2-for-4 and scored.
Estepa had three of Ayala’s 10 hits.
Elijah Duarte walked and scored.
Erlandsen also had a double.
Matt Yarc had another solid outing, going 6 1/3, and allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits.
Yarc didn’t walk anyone and registered eight strikeouts.
Cadin Gates got the final five outs, including two via strikeout.
Mason Danison singled, tripled and had an RBI.
Ajay Rollice went 2-for-3 and scored.
Aidan Yamazaki singled and scored.
Moses walked and singled.
Aaron Jacobsen’s sac fly in the bottom of the sixth inning gave GHS a 2-1 lead.
Up next: Since Ayala and Bonita are both D-1 programs, they will flip a coin today to see who gets the No. 1 seed out of the Palomares.
AHS, BHS and GHS will get their playoff opponent on Monday morning at 10.
