College Baseball:

PCC earned its fourth South Coast Conference series victory on Saturday thanks to a 9-0 victory over Mt. SAC.

After the Mounties claimed game one on Thursday (7-0), the Lancers evened the series on Friday (7-4), and then Jakob Guardado would do the rest.

Guardado threw a five-hit shutout, didn’t walk a batter and fanned six Mounties.

Of his 106 pitches, 72 were strikes.

Joey Rossetti (3-for-3) and CJ Ontiveros (2-for-4) accounted for all of Mt. SAC’s offense on Saturday.

Ontiveros’ double was the Mounties lone extra-base hit.

Alec Beck was saddled with the loss after allowing four runs on three hits over his 1 1/3 innings.

Beck issued four walks and didn’t strike anyone out.

PCC got two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks off Hunter Holmes.

Holmes got four Lancers on strikes.

PCC would out-hit Mt. SAC, 10-5.

Aryonis Harrison was 2-for-2 from the leadoff spot with two walks, three runs and a pair of RBIs.

Jake Trabbie singled, doubled, scored and drove in a game-high four RBIs.

Toshiki Kuriya walked and had an RBI triple.

Damien Ureta went 3-for-4 and scored three runs.

Jack Esguerra walked twice and scored both times.

The Lancers have series victories over ELAC, El Camino, Cerritos and now Mt. SAC.

Last week, LBCC claimed two of its three with PCC.

Mt. SAC fell to 2-9 in conference games.

Up next: PCC will host Rio Hondo on Tuesday in the first-of-three SCC games.

Quotable:

PCC pitcher Jakob Guardado: “I was focused on giving us a quality start. I had a few appearances of late that were rocky and not being myself. Against LBCC, I wanted to give a quality start and not letting them get to our bullpen. And today, I felt the same way I was on Monday. I commanded a lot with my fastball today. I felt like I was able to put it where I wanted. The first couple innings, I was a little amped up. We were looking for the series win, and I wanted to do my part. In the later innings, I was able to get my command. To win a series against Mt. SAC is always special, but it meant even more because of the way we responded to Thursday’s loss.”
