Covina sure picked a good time to find their rhythm offensively.
Four weeks ago, in their final nonleague contest, Claremont put a 43-23 beatdown on the Colts.
Covina, though, would pick up consecutive victories over Pomona (41-21), Rowland (47-0) and Chino (49-27) to secure a Sierra League championship.
In Friday’s first round of the CIF-SS Division 10 playoffs, CHS would take an 8-0 first-quarter lead and went on to earn a 35-23 road victory at Cantwell Sacred Heart.
Jake Duronslet completed 5-of-13 for 107 yards and one TD.
Duronslet did far more damage with his legs, rushing for 101 yards on 15 carries, and that included a pair of TD runs.
Joseph Rangel had a game-high 146 yards rushing on 22 carries, and he scored twice.
Adrian Rachal had one catch, but it was a 33-yard TD pass from Duronslet.
Ronnie Ropke had two receptions for 34 yards, and Da-mion Yeargin caught a pair of passes for 28 yards.
Joaquin Barragan (11) and Jason Nwaka (10) had monster games on defense, as the Covina duo combined for 21 tackles.
Nicolas Hernandez had two sacks and Diego Manriquez picked off a CSH pass.
Up next: Covina will battle Baldwin Park on Friday at Covina District Field.
The Braves (9-2) picked up a 28-16 road victory at Dana Hills.
