Football:
On Friday night, South Hills demonstated once again that the program is making undeniable steps forward.
The Huskies started 2022 with a pair of wins over Diamond Ranch and Covina.
South Hills, however, was mired in a four-game losing streak and hadn’t won a game since August 26th.
But thanks to four rushing TD’s, SHHS earned a 27-14 victory at Don Lugo.
Five minutes into the game, Noah Gonzalez scored on a 5-yard run, and the Huskies took a 6-0 advantage after missing the extra-point attempt.
Don Lugo (2-5) would take its only lead of the game (7-6), when Jason Armendariz hit Marquette Moore on a 70-yard TD pass.
And that would be all of the first-half scoring for both programs.
Just two minutes and 16 seconds into the second half, Gary San Angelo scored on an 80-yard TD run.
San Angelo would extend the SHHS lead to 20-7 after scoring on a 1-yard run with 4:06 to play in the third quarter.
Elijah Montijo would get Don Lugo to within 20-14 late in the third quarter.
On 4th-and-1, Montijo scored on a 14-yard TD run.
For all intents and purposes, Tyler Casal put it away for the Huskies with his 1-yard TD run with 10:08 to play, and South Hills would take a 27-14 lead.
