College Football:
When thinking about SGV area (Junior College) power programs, Mt. SAC would almost certainly be the first school that would enter one’s mind.
The Mounties are multi-time state champions, and they’re off to a 4-0 start in 2022.
What casual area fans might not realize, however, is that Citrus College is off to a tremendous start of their own.
The Owls are 4-0 after its 61-13 beatdown of LA Valley College.
Citrus scored the first 40 points, and their defense never allowed LAVC an opportunity to even sniff a competitive game.
Adam Urena completed 19-of-25 for 247 yards, and that included six TD passes.
Arden Napier (25 yards), Paul Cooper (32), Alex Vazquez (5), Jesse Carmona (3), Robert Vega (31) and Isaiah Espinosa (19) all had TD catches from Urena.
Napier had a game-high 65 receiving yards on three catches.
Carmona caught five passes for 55 yards, and Vega had three catches for 39 yards.
Denzel Knox carried the ball 12 times for 54 yards, and that included a 2-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter.
Former Rio Hondo Prep star Jonathan Guerrero gained 52 yards on 17 carries.
The Owls couldn’t have been too happy with their discipline, as they were flagged 13 times for 156 yards.
LAVC wasn’t any better.
The Monarchs had 15 penalties for 100 yards.
Michael Bulan had a team-high five tackles for the Owls.
Jacob Cisneros, Dominic Garcia and Evan Richardson all picked off passes in Saturday’s win.
Gabriel Tamba had a game-high two sacks.
Up next: Citrus will host Antelope Valley on Saturday at 6.
The Marauders (2-2) defeated Pasadena City College, 27-14, on Saturday.
