College Football:

For the first time all season, the Mt. SAC football program fell behind in a game.

In fact, the Mounties trailed twice in Saturday night’s showdown at Bakersfield College.

But for the fourth time in as many tries, Mt. SAC left the field unscathed.

The Mounties claimed a 28-10 victory.

Bakersfield’s Tristin Skinner opened the scoring with his 19-yard field goal midway through the first quarter.

Mt. SAC quarterback, Ike Udengwu III, scored on a 5-yard run just under four minutes into the second period, and the Mounties led 7-3.

Nine minutes later, Joseph Campbell hit Daylon Leach on a 26-yard TD pass, and Bakersfield would reclaim the lead at 10-7.

The stellar and stingy MSAC defense would hold the Renegades scoreless the rest of the way.

Udengwu connected with Cade Cadam on a 6-yard TD pass with just 37 seconds to play in the first half.

Late in the third quarter, Sean Jastrab would find Shemar Savage for a 14-yard score, and it extended the Mounties advantage to 21-10.

Mohamed Nyangamukenga capped Mt. SAC’s scoring with his 9-yard TD run with 2:53 to play.

The Mounties had advantages in total yards (404-245), first downs (26-17), passing (259-193) and rushing (145-52).

Bakersfield picked off two Mt. SAC passes and recovered a Mounties fumble.

Mt. SAC was penalized 12 times for 92 yards, as compared to 4-54 for the Renegades.

Udengwu completed 17-of-26 for 187 yards, and that included one TD and two interceptions.

Jastrab would go 9-of-12 for 72 yards, and one score.

Nyangamukenga had a team-high 37 yards on six carries.

Jaden Allen led the Mt. SAC receiving corps with eight catches for 78 yards.

Lucan Moore had six receptions for 56 yards.

And Cadam caught three passes for 24 yards.

Defensively, Anthony Hebert, Mauloa Wells and Joshua Taylor led the Mounties with seven tackles apiece.

For the first time this season, Hebert did not pick off a pass.

But the MSAC defensive back had two tackles for loss.

Katin Surprenant and Darius Eaves had one sack apiece in Saturday’s win.

Up next: The Mounties will host Allan Hancock on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (2-2) fell to visiting Fullerton, 28-20, last night.
