Football:
Don’t look now, but the defending CIF-SS 10 champions are quietly 5-1 in 2022.
And dating back to last year’s postseason run, the Vikings have won 10 of their past 12 games.
On Friday, NHS cruised to a 35-6 victory over visiting Sunny Hills at Covina District Field.
Northview scored the game’s first 35 points, before Nathaniel Lee scored on a 1-yard run with 29 seconds to play.
James Arellanes threw a 30-yard TD pass to Dylan Ochoa, and his 8-yard scoring strike to Nathan Tome with 3:03 to play in the third quarter gave NHS a 28-0 lead.
Deontrey Thompson gave Northview a 7-0 lead when he scored on an 8-yard TD run late in the first period.
Julian Barraza had a 5-yard TD run and Ochoa capped the Vikings’ scoring with a 1-yard TD run.
Arellanes completed 13-of-17 for 256 yards and the two scores.
Tome had five catches for 107 yards, and Ochoa caught three passes for 107 yards.
Angel Barraza led the NHS ground attack with 64 yards on 17 carries.
Lee had a game-high 79 yards rushing on 17 carries for Sunny Hills.
Up next: The Vikings will meet up with Bonita on Thursday at Covina District Field.
The Bearcats (4-2) are coming off impressive victories over Los Osos (28-27) and Claremont (31-28).
Quotable:
Northview quarterback, James Arellanes: “I’m really happy with how we played against Sunny Hills. We knew we didn’t have Silva or Keanu this week, so other guys really stepped up and filled those big shoes. We started a little slow at the beginning and having to punt a few times, but once we got the pass game going to go with our run game, we were set at that point. Our receivers were going up and making big catches and our offensive line was protecting really well, which helped me get the ball to our playmakers We’re feeling great right now, rolling over pretty sound and well-coached teams. I am proud of our young guys stepping up all over the field and playing their hearts out. Our o-line and running backs are doing great like they do every year, and our defense is playing lights out. We face Bonita next week and we want some payback from last year, so we’re going to bring it.”
