Baseball:
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Villa Park would get two in the inning, and the Spartans scored once in the sixth to edge Ayala, 3-2, in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs.
AJ Krodel went four innings for Villa Park and allowed two runs on four hits.
He walked one and fanned four Ayala batters.
Brandon Luu got the win after three scoreless innings in relief.
Luu allowed two hits and struck out one.
Elijah Ybanez singled twice and drove in both Bulldogs’ runs.
Anthony Hernandez, Jake Lemoine and Marcus Galvan had one hit apiece for Ayala.
Ethan Nunez singled and scored.
Anthony Dominguez walked and scored.
Andres Pasillas allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits over his 4 1/3 innings.
Pasillas didn’t issue a walk and struck out five VP batters.
Randy Limon gave up a run in the sixth and was stuck with the loss.
Limon went 1 2/3 innings, allowing two hits, walking one and striking out one.
Tyler Gordon had three singles, a run, and it was his RBI base hit in the bottom of the sixth that drove in the eventual game-winning run.
Zach Brown singled and drove in a pair of fifth-inning runs to catch Ayala at 2-2.
Gavin Rossi scored two of Villa Park’s three runs.
