Baseball:
Garrett Patterson put Bonita on his back, and the Bearcats claimed a 6-1 victory over Damien in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs.
Patterson went the distance on Friday, and allowed just one run on three hits.
He walked two and fanned seven Damien batters.
Of his 92 pitches, 64 went for strikes.
Daniel Serna doubled with two outs in the top of the second inning.
Two batters later, Jett Hernandez singled in Serna for Damien’s lone run on Friday.
Tyler Daley’s single accounted for the rest of the Spartans offense.
Ryan Mullan was saddled with the lost after allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits.
Mullan went 4 1/3 innings, walked two and fanned three Bonita batters.
The Bearcats would get three unearned run off Gavin Eddy.
Eddy scattered three hits, walked one and struck out four.
Luke Mistone went 2-for-4, scored and had one RBI.
Tyler Holley walked, singled and scored a pair of runs.
Seth Wrightstone walked, singled and scored.
JT Fenton had a pair of singles, an RBI and scored one run.
Patterson helped himself, with a walk and an RBI base hit.
Diego Vazquez singled and scored in Friday’s win.
Up next: Bonita will travel to Orange Lutheran on Tuesday.
The Lancers (24-4) had a first-round bye.
