Baseball:
Two road playoff games for La Salle, and two CIF-SS Division 4 victories.
After Tuesday’s 7-1 win at Glendora in the wild card round, the Lancers made an 88-mile road trip to Hemet.
The Bulldogs got out to an early three-run lead after just two innings, but La Salle got single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to catch Hemet at 3-3.
La Salle would get three more runs in the top of the seventh inning and La Salle headed home with a 6-3 victory.
Jake Hiner went five innings for Hemet and allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits.
Hiner walked three and fanned four LSHS batters.
Anthony Ponce was saddled with the loss, allowing four runs (two earned) on two hits and four walks in 1 1/3 innings.
With the scored tied in the top of the seventh and with one out, AJ Beltre drew a walk.
Evan Nahra gave the Lancers their first lead of the game with a two-run seventh-inning home run, and La Salle would get an insurance run on an error and passed ball.
Beltre walked twice, doubled, scored a pair of runs and had an RBI.
Hunter Vigil walked twice, singled and had one RBI.
Valentino Gomez walked, singled and scored twice.
AC Nieto singled twice and scored.
Morgan Sullivan went the final 5 1/3 scoreless innings to get the win.
Sullivan allowed three hits, walked three and fanned a trio of Bulldogs batters.
Hiner helped his own cause with three walks and a solo home run.
Raul Piata went 2-for-4, with an RBI.
Elias Mapstead and Timothy Lachappa singled and scored one run apiece for Hemet.
Up next: La Salle will host El Modena on Tuesday.
The Vanguards (20-9) blanked visiting Adelanto, 2-0, on Thursday.
