Northview opened the 2021 baseball season by getting a solid effort on the mound from its ace, and a big day at the plate from a Vikings’ sophomore.
Northview got four runs in the second inning and cruised to an 8-4 victory over Walnut.
Ethan Galindo, one of the SGV’s best pitchers, began his senior season in fine form.
Galindo went five strong innings, allowing just one run on four hits to earn the victory.
Galindo walked one and struck out four Mustangs’ batters.
Kyle Calzadiaz walked, doubled twice, scored once and had two RBIs to lead the Walnut offense on Friday.
Joseph Russo got the loss for Walnut.
Russo allowed five runs (one earned) and seven hits over his four innings of work.
Dean Curley had a huge day at the plate.
Curley went 3-for-4, including two singles, a double and a grand slam home run.
Eligh Hidalgo singled, doubled and drove in a pair of runs.
Diego Frey, Andrew Paredes and Moses Medrano singled and scored in the win.
Ivan Barragan walked and scored twice.
