Boys Basketball:
Damien is now one win away from a spot in the CIF State Division 1 title game.
The Spartans defeated visiting St. Bernard, 70-65, in the semifinal round of the So Cal Regionals.
Damien got double digit points from four of its five starters.
Jimmy Oladokun had a team-high 19 points.
RJ Smith contributed 18 points and Kaleb Smith provided 17 points, including three 3-point baskets in Saturday’s victory.
Tyler Rolison led St. Bernard with a game-high 24 points, including three 3-pointers.
Darius Carr finished with 19 and Jason Hart chipped in with 13 points for the Vikings.
Nine of Spivey Word’s 12 points came from behind the 3-point arc.
Damien converted on 20-of-26 free-throw attempts, while St. Bernard went 10-of-15 from the charity stripe.
The Spartans hit eight 3-pointers to seven for the Vikings.
Up next: Damien will host Crean Lutheran on Tuesday in the Southern California Regional title game.
The Spartans defeated the boys from Irvine, 64-59, in the first round of the CIF-SS Open Division playoffs.
The Saints (25-6) claimed a 72-65 victory over Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks on Saturday night.
