Boys Basketball:

You know it’s not your day when you hit 10 3-pointers as a team, and still lose by 35 points.

But that’s exactly what happened to the Upland boys basketball program.

The Highlanders’ Aiden Chavez hit seven 3-pointers and finished with 30 points.

Damien, however, was balanced as usual, and cruised to an 87-52 victory, to improve to 2-0 in Baseline League games.

Spivey Word had a team-high 24 points and RJ Smith contributed 19 points in the win.

Jimmy Oladokun chipped in with 17 points, while Kaleb Smith had nine and Bradley Xie scored eight points for the Spartans.

Damien held a 28-7 lead after the first quarter at Upland, and never looked back.

Jose Guzman scored eight points for the Highlanders, and Brian Smith chipped in with seven.

Up next: Both Damien and Upland will be in action tonight (Tuesday).

The Spartans host Rancho Cucamonga (18-3, 2-1), and the Highlanders welcome Etiwanda (12-5, 2-0).
