Thanks to Maranatha for this report:

Playing the second match in their three-matches-in-three-days schedule this week, Maranatha girls tennis took a step forward in their 13-5 win over Pasadena.

Their aim was to make improvements from yesterday’s victory over Alhambra.

Mission accomplished.

Top to bottom, it looked like they had more court awareness and a better sense of what they were trying to do.

As expected, there were lapses and falling back into old habits and patterns, but they were recognized, for the most part, and followed by in-game corrective adjustments.

While the singles lineup, once again, led the way, the doubles unit made strides forward and posted their first collective win of the season, winning the doubles battle, 5-4.

Jennifer Chu/Peony Liu achieved their first sweep of the season, while Franziska Ries/Natalia Kalajian also reached new ground, winning two sets on the day.

In singles, Grace Yang and Sarah Fong each swept their opponents, with Hannah Su winning two sets.

Scoreline:

Singles Results:
No. 1: Hannah Su – 3-6, 6-0, 6-0
No. 2: Sarah Fong – 6-0, 6-1, 6-0
No. 3: Grace Yang – 7-5, 6-0, 6-0

Doubles:
No. 1: Jennifer Chu/Peony Liu – 6-3, 6-0, 6-1
No. 2: Franziska Ries/Natalia Kalajian – 1-6, 6-0, 6-2
No. 3: Chloe Soh/Hannalee Trout – 4-6, 2-6
Sub: Chloe Soh/Catherine Hayes – 1-6

Up next: The Lady Minutemen are now 2-1 on the season and conclude their week tomorrow at Monrovia HS.

If their bodies cooperate, they hope to take another step forward in improving their strokes and strategies.
