Fabian Marez Tossed a Pair of Touchdown Passes in South Hills’ 21-17 Week One Victory at Ayala

Football:

South Hills traveled to Chino Hills on Friday night to battle an Ayala program that hasn’t won a football game since August 31st of 2024.

And the Huskies entered Friday’s showdown at 0-1 after an eight-point loss at El Rancho in their week zero contest.

After a scoreless first quarter, SHHS scored one TD apiece in the second, third and fourth quarters to edge Ayala, 21-17.

The Bulldogs have now lost their last 20 games.

South Hills had a pretty balanced attack with 182 yards through the air and another 161 on the ground.

Fabian Marez completed 16-of-29 for 182 yards.

He tossed a pair of TD passes and no picks.

Marez also gained 25 yards on three carries.

Justin Jimenez led the Huskies ground game with 68 yards on 12 carries.

Jorge Aldaco carried the ball eight times for 52 yards, including one TD run.

Jayden Lang carried the ball three times for 16 yards.

Maxal Rodriguez reeled in seven passes for a game-high 93 receiving yards and one TD catch.

Jacob Gallardo had eight catches for 84 yards and one TD.

James Perez and Landon Jaramillo led the Huskies defense with eight tackles apiece.

Daniel Calderon had six tackles, while Reilly Whitter and Jacob Gallardo finished with five tackles apiece.

Up next: The Huskies travel to Diamond Ranch next Friday at 7.

The Panthers (0-2) are enduring a brutal start to the 2026 season.

They’ve dropped consecutive games to Los Altos and Bonita by a combined margin of 97-0.
