Football:

There was a lot of preseason hype surrounding the Alta Loma football program.

In 2025, the Lions claimed a share of their first league (Valle Vista) title this century.

And better yet, the majority of players at skilled positions were back in 2026.

ALHS certainly made a statement in their season opener against their visitors from Colony.

It took the boys in blue just over three minutes to score, and they’d cruise to a 37-0 victory over the Titans.

Izaih Brown rumbled in from one yard out at 8:50 of the first quarter to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.

Max Fierro, the ALHS quarterback, tossed three TD passes and ran for another.

Fierro doubled the Alta Loma advantage with a 2-yard TD run late in the first quarter.

Bryant Avila, the Lions leading receiver in 2025 caught a pair of scores from Fierro.

With 48 seconds remaining in the first quarter, he reeled in a 13-yard scoring strike from his sophomore quarterback.

Four minutes into the second quarter, Avila caught a 12-yard TD pass to extend the Alta Loma lead to 28-0.

Devon White had a two-yard TD reception.

And the Lions would close out the scoring by tackling a Colony player in the end zone after a bad snap.

Fierro completed 9-of-13 for 127 yards.

As mentioned, that included three TD passes and a rushing TD.

Brown totaled 87 yards rushing and the one score.

Avila finished with six receptions for 106 yards and the two second-quarter TD catches.

Up next: ALHS travels to La Canada next Friday at 7 to battle St. Francis.

The Golden Knights had a week-zero bye.

Quotable:

ALHS quarterback, Max Fierro: “The emphasis we had all week from our coaches was to not get too high or too low and we did a good job of that. Our offense was super effective and we were able to establish the run early on and that opened up the secondary. I didn’t have any nerves and felt like Friday was just another day because we put the work in. Bryant did an excellent job tonight. I know if I get him the ball, he’s going to make something happen. Our defense was outstanding. Everybody was firing off the ball and there was good communication. We executed the game plan of containing the quarterback’s ability to run the ball.”
