Football:
In the 2025 season opener, Bonita left Muir with a sour taste in their mouth and a 17-14 loss.
The Bearcats lost quarterback Travis Lippert for several weeks, and their game-changer, Joseph Lara suffered a season-ending injury.
Fast forward to the 2026 opener in La Verne and the Bonita defense was nothing short of dominating.
The BHS ‘D’ held the Mustangs to just 92 yards of total offense and zero points in the 20-6 victory.
Muir’s lone score was a 71-yard pick-six by MHS sophomore Bradley Stinson at 3:06 of the first quarter.
Bonita would answer back quickly when Lara rumbled in from 14 yards out.
Both teams missed their first-quarter extra-point attempts.
With 1:29 to play in the first half, Evan Robbins connected with Matt Milazzo on a 12-yard TD pass to give BHS a 13-6 lead.
Issac Herrera put the game on ice with his 2-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.
Lara finished with 103 yards on 15 carries, including the TD run.
Up next: MHS and BHS will both be in action next Friday at 7.
The Mustangs head to Pinecrest Academy in Henderson, Nevada on Friday.
The Bearcats visit Diamond Ranch.

Quotable:
Bonita RB/LB, Joseph Lara: “I’m really blessed and grateful to be back. My family, my athletic trainer and my coaches played a big part in getting me back fully healthy. I’m just excited to play a team like that and be back home for the first time in almost two years. Our defensive line played great. We have great depth there, including Isaiah Lazarus, Izik Rodriguez, Matthew Mijares, Jaedyn Segura, Michael Lee, Levi Gregorich and JJ Juarez, and that’s what makes them a really good group. We had young guys step up at outside backers and corners and our safeties played great protecting the deep ball. Isaac Herrera stepped up big in the run game. Our whole d-line flew to the ball, and Matt Milazzo had a great offseason and played a big part in scoring and shutting down their No. 1 receiver last night.”
