Championship Game Preview: Glendora Battles Laguna Beach on Saturday Night at Cal State Fullerton for CIF D-4 Title

May 28 2026 05:24:45

Baseball:

Glendora had one CIF-SS baseball championship in its history before 2025.

On Saturday evening, the Tartans go for their second CIF title in as many years.

One season after securing the D-3 championship over San Dimas (2-0), the Tartans will face off with Laguna Beach at 7:30 at Cal State Fullerton in the D-4 title game.

Trailing 2-0 in the top of the sixth inning on Tuesday, Glendora scored three runs to secure a 3-2 victory at Saugus to earn their spot at Goodwin Field.

GHS matches up pretty evenly against the Breakers.

Laguna Beach (133) is 12 spots ahead of Glendora in the MaxPreps state rankings.

The Tartans have a .333 team batting average as compared to .307 for the Breakers.

LBHS does have a significant advantage in team ERA.

Their collective 2.21 ERA is 1.39 better than GHS.

Glendora has a 206-184 advantage in runs scored, while Laguna Beach has allowed 23 less rums.

After Sebastian Lawrence went the distance on Tuesday, it would seem that Tanner Grable would get the ball on Saturday evening.

Grable started and went 3 1/3 scoreless innings in last year’s final at CSUF.

There is no question as to the heart of the Laguna Beach offense.

Dylan Yencho has had a beast of a junior season.

Yencho is batting .455 with 50 hits, 30 runs and 28 RBIs.

He’s tallied 18 doubles and three home runs.

Other offensive leaders for the Breakers include: Otis Boultinghouse (.353, 36 hits, 31 runs, 22 RBIs, 12 doubles, one triple & three HRs), Lincoln Adams (.320, 32 hits, 29 runs, 20 RBIs, 13 doubles, one triple & two HRs), Parker Moore (.337, 32 hits, 14 runs, 30 RBIs, four doubles & one HR), Gabe Paz (.286, 22 hits, nine runs, 10 RBIs, eight doubles & one HR) and Jacob Wicker (.346, 18 hits, 12 runs, nine RBIs, five doubles, one triple & one HR).

Branson Wade (11-3, 1.23 ERA, 24 walks and 105 strikeouts in 85 2/3 innings) in without question the ace for Laguna Beach.

However, Wade went six innings in Tuesday’s 2-1 victory at Grand Terrace, which included 108 pitches.

The Tartans are likely to face Aaron Crosby, who is 5-4 with a 2.04 ERA.

Crosby has issued 26 walks and registered 82 strikeouts in 61 2/3 innings.

GHS has a number of offensive stars.

In the postseason, Sebastian Lawrence has contributed mightily with a bat or ball in his hand.

Lawrence is a combined 8-for-12 with four doubles, two home runs, five runs and nine RBIs in wins over St. Anthony, Katella, Canyon and Saugus.

For the season, Tanner Grable leads the Tartans, batting .404, with 36 hits, 26 runs and 29 RBIs.

Grable has five doubles, one triple and four home runs.

He leads the Tartans in average, hits, RBIs and tied for first in home runs.

Glendora’s offensive production also includes Sebastian Lawrence (.386, 32 hits, 16 runs, 24 RBIs, 14 doubles & three HRs), John Seader (.368, 35 hits, 29 runs, 15 RBIs & six doubles), Santiago Garza: (.348, 32 hits, 21 runs, 24 RBIs, five doubles & four HRs), Jude Garcia (.341, 28 hits, 13 runs, 14 RBIs, four doubles & two HRs), Riley Cooper (.295, 28 hits, 25 runs, 11 RBIs, three doubles, five triples & one HR), Diego Garza (.288, 21 hits, seven runs, 18 RBIs & one double), Troy Norman (.276, 21 hits, 17 runs, eight RBIs, one double, one triple and one HR) and Aidan Yamazaki (.253, 20 hits, 23 runs, 16 RBIs, five doubles, one triple & one HR).
