Softball:
Oxnard escaped Monrovia, 1-0, in the semifinal round of the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs in a pitcher’s duel.
The Yellowjackets got a single run in the top of the third inning when Rachel Godoy connected on a two-out solo home run to center.
The Wildcats star freshman pitcher, Carly Polanco, went the distance, and she surrendered the one run on three hits.
Polanco issued one walk and registered four strikeouts.
Fifty-three of her 76 pitches were strikes.
Destinee Herrera got the win in the circle.
She went all seven and scattered four hits.

Herrera didn’t allow a walk and struck out eight Monrovia batters.
Seventy-seven of her 105 pitches were strikes.
Madison Cardona went 2-for-3.
Mikalah Ortega and Carly Polanco had one hit apiece.
Up next: Oxnard will face Mission Viejo this coming weekend for the D-4 championship.
The Diablos (17-15) edged Burroughs, 5-3, on Saturday.
Monrovia defeated Indio (4-2 in 10 innings), Don Lugo (5-1) and Mira Costa (4-0) in the postseason before falling to OHS on Saturday.
