Lakewood Earns Spud O’Neil One Final Trip to CIF-SS Semifinal Round After Friday’s 5-3 Division 6 Quarterfinal Victory at Muir

A remarkable 2026 season came to an end for the Muir baseball program.

Lakewood edged the Mustangs, 5-3, in the quarterfinal round of the CIF-SS Division 6 playoffs.

Trailing 3-0, MHS scored three times in the bottom of the fifth inning.

However, the Lancers scored one run apiece in the top of the sixth and seventh innings.

LHS out-hit MHS, 10-5, including a 2-1 advantage in extra-base hits.

Xavier Nunez went four innings, and he was charged with three runs on four hits and one hit batter.

Nunez didn’t issue a walk and registered two strikeouts.

Rivas Lathan was credited with the win after going three scoreless innings in relief and scattering two hits.

Lathan walked one and fanned three Muir batters.

Kahlil Rishwain went 2-for-4, including an RBI ground out.

Sergio Rodriguez’s two-run double tied the game at 3-3.

George Perez was hit by pitch and scored.

Eduardo Sosa and Bryant Soriano had one single apiece.

Brandon Figueroa scored once for the Mustangs.

Sergio Rodriguez went five innings, and he surrendered three runs (two earned) on five hits.

Rodriguez walked three and fanned eight Lakewood batters.

Luca Cano got the loss after allowing two runs on five hits over the final two innings.

Xavier Nunez singled twice, doubled and scored a pair of runs.

Nick Gallegos went 2-for-3, including an RBI single in the top of the sixth to give Lakewood a 4-3 lead.

Anthony Rueda walked, was hit by pitch and singled in a run in the seventh.

Jayden Pea walked, doubled and scored two runs.

Victor Rodriguez singled and scored.

Tanner Miramontes had an RBI ground out.

Daniel Manriquez and Nate Gallegos had one hit apiece for LHS.

Muir finished the year having won 14 of their final 16 games.

Congrats to Lakewood legend Spud O’Neil for this playoff run in the final season of his Hall of Fame career.

O’Neil is just shy of the 1,000 career win mark.

Up next: The Lancers host Covina on Tuesday at 3:15.

The Colts (14-13-1) cruised to an 11-6 victory at Western Christian.
