Softball:
Monrovia scored two times in the bottom of the first inning, never trailed and secured a 5-1 victory over Don Lugo in the second round of the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs.
Carly Polanco went the distance and allowed one run on six hits.
Polanco issued three walks and registered seven strikeouts.
Seventy-nine of her 125 pitches were strikes.
Hayden Pitsenberger’s singled and she hit a solo home run in the top of the third inning got DLHS to within 2-1 of MHS.
Camila Franco doubled, while Kaile Enriquez, Leyla Zelayandia and Emily Saenz had one single apiece.
Randi Barrios got the loss after surrendering five runs (two earned) on seven hits and five walks over six innings.
Barrios registered one strikeout.
Madison Cardona went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Aubrey Myers walked and doubled in a run.
Mikalah Ortega walked, singled and scored.
Mischa Lue-Long went 1-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
Mia Parker singled twice and scored.
Up next: The Wildcats will battle Mira Costa on Wednesday in a quarterfinal-round contest.
The Mustangs (20-10) secured a 2-0 victory over their visitors from La Quinta.
