Baseball:
Glendora put Thursday’s CIF-SS Division 4 opener against visiting St. Anthony away early.
The defending D-3 champs led 9-0 after two innings, and they held on for an 11-5 victory.
Sebastian Lawrence went 4 1/3 innings, and he was charged with five runs on six hits and a pair of hit batters.
Lawrence didn’t issue a walk and registered two strikeouts.
Preston Tymchak (1 2/3) and Tanner Grable (1) combined to provide 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief, including a pair of strikeouts by Tymchak.
Jaylen Butler had an RBI double.
Anthony Valdez singled, scored and was hit by pitch with the bases loaded.
Aidann Ruiz went 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs.
Luke DeGiorgio, Owen Frazier and Matthew James singled and scored one run apiece.
Jason Glenn singled in a run for the Saints.
Marc James got the loss after getting roughed up for six runs on three hits, four walks and a hit batter over one inning of work.
Sebastian Lawrence had an RBI double, a two-run HR and scored three times.
Aidan Yamazaki drew three walks, including one with the bases loaded and scored.
John Seader drew a pair of walks, singled and scored twice.
Tanner Grable walked twice and scored three runs.
Diego Garza and Troy Norman had one sac fly apiece and they combined to walk three times.
Jude Garcia was hit with the bases loaded, scored and had a two-run single.
Santiago Garza singled in a run in the first to get GHS on the board and scored.
Riley Cooper doubled in Thursday’s win.
Up next: The Tartans travel to Katella on Tuesday at 3:15.
The Knights (16-11) edged their visitors from Sonora, 5-4, on Thursday.
