Baseball:
Muir got out to an early lead and never trailed in Thursday’s 8-2 victory over visiting Hillcrest in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 6 playoffs.
Sergio Rodriguez went 5 1/3 innings to earn the win, and he was charged with two runs on six hits and a pair of hit batters.
Rodriguez issued two walks and registered four strikeouts.
Logan Broesel singled, doubled and drove in a pair of runs.
Adrian Martinez singled three times and scored.
Camden Xayrath walked and doubled.
Matt Ramos singled and Beau DeJournett was hit by pitch twice and scored.
Diego Gonzalez got the loss after allowing five runs on six hits and three walks over 2 1/3 innings.
Kahlil Rishwain drew a pair of walks, singled and scored.
Luca Cano went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI.
Sergio Rodriguez walked, was hit by pitch, scored twice and had one RBI on a sac fly.
Ezekiel Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with a walk and one RBI.
Bryant Soriano drew a pair of walks and scored.
Lawton Gray went 2-for-3, was hit by pitch, scored and had an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.
Eduardo Sosa had an RBI ground out and Jagger Martinez drove in a run on a sac fly.
Up next: MHS travels to Calvary Chapel Santa Ana on Tuesday at 3:15.
The Eagles (19-10) cruised to an 8-2 victory over their visitors from Hueneme.
