Baseball:
For as competitive as the Rio Hondo League title chase was, La Canada ended up pulling away from the pack.
After 9-2 and 10-4 victories over the Wildcats on Monday and Wednesday, respectively, the Spartans finished three games ahead of second-place Monrovia, and four games in front of third-place San Marino.
LCHS trailed 2-0, but they scored five runs in the bottom of the third and they got four more in the fifth to distance themselves from the visiting Wildcats.
Joe Bell went 3 1/3 innings and he was charged with three runs (one earned) on one hit and five walks.
Bell struck out four.
Benji Geller allowed one run on two hits and one hit batter over 2 2/3 innings.
Geller issued one walk and registered three strikeouts.
Scott Burns got all three of his outs in the seventh via strikeout.
Troy Grise was hit by pitch, doubled, homered, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs.
Greyson Lorenzini walked, singled and scored.
Micah Clauson walked and scored.
Evan Huelster had an RBI ground out.
Jayden Castaneda singled on Wednesday.
Sutton Powers went 2 2/3 innings, and he was charged with five runs on four hits.
Powers issued three walks and registered a pair of strikeouts.
Padraic Brusseau surrendered five runs (one earned) on five hits and one hit batter.
Brusseau walked three and struck out three La Canada batters.
Lucas Martinez provided 2 2/3 scoreless and hitless innings for Monrovia.
Martinez walked two and fanned a pair of Spartans.
With the scored tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the third inning, Austin Loughrin hit a three-run home run.
And La Canada would not trail again.
Benji Geller had a two-run single, a sac fly, drew a bases loaded walk and scored.
Ethan Wong was hit by pitch and had a two-run single.
Will Park drew a pair of walks, singled and scored a pair of runs.
Joe Bell singled twice and scored two runs.
Finn Flowerhogan drew three walks and scored a pair of runs.
Ross Piken singled and doubled.
Chase Regan singled and scored.
Brandon Mohaghegh reached base on an error and scored on a wild pitch.
