Palomar’s 14-4 Victory on Sunday Ends Mt. SAC’s Season; Mounties Finished 24-19 & Earned SCC co-Championship

College Baseball:

Mt. SAC saw its 2026 season come to an end on Sunday afternoon in the San Diego area.

After dropping a 12-5 decision at Palomar on Saturday, the Mounties needed to beat the Comets twice on Sunday to keep their season alive.

However, with no shame to MSAC, Palomar was the best program at this regional.

The Comets move on to next week’s Super Regionals thanks to wins over Mt. San Jacinto (12-0) on Friday, Mt. SAC (12-5) on Saturday and Mt. SAC again (14-4) on Sunday.

Joey Navarro got the win after going six innings and allowed one run on four hits and one hit batter.

Navarro walked three and fanned four MSAC batters.

Cody Cappelletti retired all six batters he faced in the seventh and eighth innings.

The Mounties got to Joey Halter for three runs on two hits and a pair of walks in the ninth inning.

Chip Mertz singled, tripled and scored.

Frankie Brazil walked and scored.

Andrew Alva had a sac fly in the first inning and an RBI single in the ninth.

Nick Mejia walked, singled and scored.

Hudson Karczynski singled and drove in a run on a sac fly.

AC Nieto had an RBI ground out.

Seth Sumner was saddled with the loss after allowing seven runs on six hits and one hit batter.

Sumner issued three walks and registered two strikeouts.

Brendan Menchaca was charged with four runs (two earned) on five hits and a walk over 2 2/3 innings.

Juan Verduzco went two innings and he surrendered three runs (two earned) on two hits and a pair of walks.

Verduzco struck out one batter.

Richie Burrillo provided a scoreless inning of relief in the top of the ninth inning.

The Comets out-hit the Mounties, 14-6, including a 6-1 advantage in extra-base hits.

Braedon Peterson-Cheek had three doubles, a run and three RBIs.

Gavin Malcomson went 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs and an RBI.

Preston Conklin drew a pair of walks, singled and scored.

Rainn McMillan doubled in a run in the third and scored two times.

Jacob Loving went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs and one RBI.

Michael Rodda walked, scored and had a pair of RBI ground outs.

Elijah Stephens went 2-for-4 with a walk, double, two runs and a pair of RBIs.

Justin Tucker scored, double in a run and had a pair of RBI ground balls.

Adrian Macias went 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs and one RBI.

One year after winning their first state title in 60 years, Mt. SAC finished 24-19.

That included winning a share of the South Coast Conference championship with El Camino.
