College Baseball:
Cypress scored four total runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to edge Citrus, 8-7, and snap the Owls 12-game winning streak.
The Chargers need one win on Sunday to move on to next week’s Super Regionals.
Three errors cost the boys from Glendora three runs on Saturday afternoon.
Conner Luetto went the first six innings, and he surrendered five runs (two earned) on eight hits and a pair of hit batters.
Luetto issued one walk and registered five strikeouts.
Ryan Harrison was saddled with the loss after allowing three runs on two hits and a hit batter over three innings.
Harrison walked three and fanned six Cypress batters.
Justin Tillar scored and doubled twice, including a two-run double in the top of the eighth to give the Chargers a 7-6 lead.
Travis Curry’s solo home run in the top of the ninth gave Cypress an 8-6 lead.
Tyler Smith walked, singled and scored a pair of runs.
Ben Keisler walked, had a pair of RBI singles and scored twice.
Gavin Johnson went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Ty Peters walked and scored.
Branden Ruiz singled and had an RBI ground out.
Geoff McArthur’s RBI single in the second tied the game at 1-1.
John Short walked and scored.
Rocky Palacio went five innings and he was charged with three runs on five hits and a hit batter.
Palacio issued four walks and registered four strikeouts.
Ezekiel Case was credited with the win after going two innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits and a hit batter.
Case walked two and fanned three Citrus batters.
Rudy Carlos earned the save.
Carlos surrendered one run one three hits over two innings.
Carlos didn’t walk a batter and struck out a pair of Owls.
Jordan Daniels hit a solo home run in the ninth to pull Citrus to within 8-7.
Derek Almeda singled twice and scored.
Cole West drew a pair of walks and scored two runs.
Cam Casado walked, had an RBI single and a two-run single in the first and sixth innings, respectively.
Nick Velazquez walked, singled, had an RBI double and a solo home run and scored.
Garrett Patterson walked, singled, doubled and scored.
Dustin Yela scored once in the loss.
Up next: The Owls will need two wins on Sunday to keep their season alive.
The first game is set for 11 am.
