College Baseball:
Eight days ago, Mt. San Jacinto defeated Mt. SAC, 8-4, in the regular season finale for both programs.
On Friday, the Mounties edged the Eagles, 5-4, in the first game of the 3C2A playoffs at Palomar College.
Mt. SAC led 4-1 before Mt. San Jacinto scored twice in the top of the eighth and once in the ninth.
The Mounties out-hit the Eagles, 15-9.
Tomas Bilvado went 7 2/3 innings and he was charged with three runs (two earned) on eight hits.
Bilvado didn’t issue a walk and registered four strikeouts.
Seth Sumner got the final out of the eighth inning.
And Juan Verduzco allowed an unearned run on one hit and a walk in the ninth inning.
Verduzco registered a pair of strikeouts.
Alex Pintal singled and tripled.
Will Siqueiros singled, scored and his RBI ground out in the top of the ninth tied the game at 4-4.
Steven Felipe walked, singled, scored and had an RBI double in the eighth.
Ryan Rangel had an RBI single.
Ty Mattison singled twice and scored.
Matt Rezkalah singled.
Dayton Thompson went four innings and he allowed two runs on seven hits.
Thompson didn’t issue a walk and fanned a pair of Mounties.
Efren Urrea someone surrendered just one run in spite of allowing six hits in two innings of work.
Tylor Copeland went the seventh and he was charged with one run on one hit and a walk.
Ivan Salas got the loss after allowing the game winning run to score on one hit and three walks.
With the game tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Salas plunked Frolian Serna with the bases loaded.
Frankie Brazil singled three times and scored.
Nick Mejia went 4-for-4 with a walk, run and three doubles, including an RBI double in the fifth inning.
Hudson Karczynski walked, singled and scored a pair of runs.
Ryan Castro walked, scored, had an RBI single and an RBI double.
Tyler Primanto went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI single in the second to give Mt. SAC a 2-0 lead.
Luca Lombardi and Andrew Alva had one single apiece in the win.
Up next: The Mounties will battle Palomar on Saturday at 1 in what will be a best-of-three scenario.
