Baseball:
Alta Loma headed into this week with a one-game lead over South Hills in the Hacienda League standings.
That meant a sweep over Los Altos would earn ALHS an outright Hacienda League championship.
However, Alta Loma and Los Altos won on each other’s field on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
That set up a third game on Friday in Hacienda Heights.
The Conquerors led 4-1 as the Lions grabbed their bats in the top of the sixth inning.
A Friday loss would mean a second-place finish for Alta Loma.
But ALHS rallied for three runs in the sixth and seventh innings and held on for a 7-5 victory.
And while the Huskies and Lions both finished 9-3 in Hacienda League games, Alta Loma won two of three to get the No. 1 seed.
Logan Sein started and he surrendered three runs (two earned) on five hits over four innings.
Sein walked three and fanned a pair of Conquerors.
Jacob Castanon was charged with an unearned run on one walk, a balk and a hit batter in one inning of work.
Castanon got two of his three outs via strikeout.
Luke Proctor got the final six outs, allowing one run on one hit and a pair of walks.
Proctor fanned two LAHS batters and got out of a bases loaded and no out scenario in the bottom of the seventh with only one run.
Luke Rodriguez hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth to give Los Altos a 2-1 lead.
Tommy Lozano drew a bases loaded walk.
Jacob Vargas singled and scored.
Dominic Estrada was walked three times and scored a pair of runs.
Either Diaz went 2-for-2.
Jacob Castaneda had an RBI ground out.
Diego Ortiz and Mikey Arroyo had one single apiece.
Diaz went 5 1/3 innings, and he allowed three runs on four hits, three walks and a hit batter.
Diaz recorded one strikeout.
Ortiz was stuck with the loss after surrendering four unearned runs on three hits.
Proctor led off the game with a walk and scored four batters later on a Vincent Cantu single.
Cantu also scored on Friday.
Silas Granados went 2-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in the sixth inning.
Grant MacCharles singled in a run in the sixth.
Logan Sein went 2-for-4 with a run, and his three-run triple in the seventh drove in the eventual game winning runs.
Lukas Spence and Matt Perez had one single apiece for ALHS.
Jacob Cerecerez and Antonio Juarez-Inzunza pinch ran and scored one run apiece.
Edward Garbo walked and scored.

Quotable:
Alta Loma coach, Dustin Frailey: “This group of boys has been the most resilient group of ballplayers I’ve ever been around. The boys never stopped believing and knew how special this opportunity was to go out and bring home a league title for Alta Loma. They accomplished the goal they set from the beginning of the year.”
