Baseball:
Damien is closing in on securing the No. 2 seed out of the Baseline League.
The Spartans edged Chino Hills, 3-2, on Wednesday, and in the process, handed the Huskies their sixth consecutive loss.
Jacob Campos went six innings and he was charged with two runs (one earned) on four hits and one hit batter.
Campos issued three walks and registered two strikeouts.
Layne Hansen retired the side in the seventh to earn the save.
Anthony Medyn doubled in a run in the top of the fourth inning.
Brody Buoncristiani walked, singled and scored.
Nick Gonzalez singled and scored.
Taylor Pierson had one single.
Jacob Hernandez got the loss after allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits over six innings.
Hernandez didn’t issue a walk and registered two strikeouts.
Grant Corder singled, hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning and drove in another on a fifth-inning sac fly.
Aiden East went 2-for-2 with an RBI single in the second and scored one run.
Michael Mansour, Brady Bickham and Elius Kelly had one single apiece.
Jackson Annigain reached base on an error and scored.
Up next: The Spartans go for the three-game sweep on Friday at CHHS.
