College Baseball:
Citrus College secured a three-game Western State Conference South Division sweep of West LA on Friday.
The Owls grinded out a 5-2 victory at WLAC.
They became just the seventh team in the state to notch 30 regular season wins.
In his first year as head coach, Andy Smith’s Owls tallied the most program wins in 23 years.
And that includes 17 more victories than a year ago.
Citrus scored three times in the top of the second inning and they never trailed.
Sean York went seven innings and allowed two runs on five hits.
York issued one walk and registered nine strikeouts.
Matthew Martinez provided two scoreless and hitless innings.
Martinez walked two and fanned one.
Nicholas Jacobo had an RBI double and scored.
Jaxon Bernard drew a pair of walks and scored.
Payton Graue walked and singled in a run.
Gustav Everly went 2-for-3.
Tristan Philip-Guide doubled.
Adrian Ambriz went 7 1/3 innings and allowed five runs (two earned) on nine hits, four walks and a hit batter.
In the top of the second inning, Garrett Patterson hit a 3-run home run.
Nick Velazquez singled, doubled and scored a pair of runs.
Jackson Gray walked, singled in a run and scored.
Julian Hines, singled, scored and had an RBI ground out.
Jordan Daniels and Dustin Yela walked and had one single apiece.
Derek Almeda singled once in the win.
Up next: The Owls will get their playoff opponent and location on Sunday.
