Softball:
Two days after a disappointing (12-3) nine-run loss to Bonita, the Tartans struck back with an 11-0 Palomares League victory over Walnut in five innings.
Gianna Messick went five scoreless and scattered four hits.
She didn’t issue a walk and registered five strikeouts.
Fifty-seven of her 81 pitches were strikes.
Peyton Schilz had two singles apiece for WHS.
Kaitlyn McGill and Paloma Pasquil had one single apiece to account for the rest of the Mustangs’ offense.
Aubrey Birtness got the loss after allowing 11 runs (six earned) on 10 hits over four innings.
Birtness issued two walks and registered one strikeout.
Kennedy Bowers had a pair of doubles and five RBIs.
Morgan Gonzalez singled and hit a three-run HR.
Siena Bobadilla walked, doubled twice and scored three runs.
Emma Garcia, Addison Bowers and Kaylie Winovitch singled and scored one run apiece.
Penny Dixon went 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Ryan Torres has a pair of singles, scored twice and drove in one run on a sac fly.
Lauren Curiel had an RBI single and scored.
Up next: The Tartans battle Granada Hills Charter and Banning today (Saturday) at 11 am and 3 pm, respectively.
GHS will then travel to first-place Ayala on Wednesday.
With four league games remaining, GHS and Bonita are tied for second, and they trail first-place Ayala by two games.
