Baseball:

There are a couple of reasons why Monrovia has won 81-percent of their games thus far.

The Wildcats .328 batting average isn’t shabby.

However, it’s their 1.26 team ERA that has opposing batters frustrated.

On Wednesday, two MHS pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout in Monrovia’s 2-0 victory at Mayfair.

Greyson Lorenzini went five scoreless and allowed just two hits.

Lorenzini issued a pair of walks and registered eight strikeouts.

Sutton Powers earned the save by going two scoreless, allowing one hit and getting half of his six outs via strikeout.

Lorenzini tossed 83 pitches, 52 of which were strikes.

Twenty-one of Powers’ 33 pitches were strikes.

Dominic Uffman, Spencer Cummins and Aiden Sullivan had one single apiece for the Monsoons.

Jacob Brown got the loss after surrendering two runs (one earned) on three hits over five innings.

Brown walked a pair and fanned five MHS batters.

Powers went 2-for-3, including an RBI double in the fourth to give Monrovia a 1-0 lead.

Two innings later, Braedon Petteruto-Shine singled home Powers.

Braydon Blackmore walked and scored.

Evan Huelster walked and singled.

Up next: The Wildcats travel to Glendora on Saturday morning at 10.
