Baseball:
After a 3-9-1 start to the 2026 season, Covina finds itself alone in second place in the Valle Vista League standings.
The Colts split their two-game VVL series with Northview back on April 1st and 3rd.
And on Wednesday, CHS erupted for eight runs in the final three innings to secure an 11-4 victory at West Covina in game one.
Covina out-hit West Covina, 16-10.
Donovan Johnson was the star of Wednesday’s triumph.
Johnson went the distance and he was charged with four runs on 10 hits.
Johnson issued a pair of walks and registered three strikeouts.
Joaquin Diaz totaled three singles and one run.
Danny Pineda singled twice and scored.
Rieleigh Rangel walked and singled.
Levi Ruiz doubled in a run and scored.
Gabriel Diaz went 1-for-4 with a run and one RBI.
Andrew Maldonado singled.
Ethan Okazaki singled in a run.
Griffey Moncada drove in a run on a sac fly.
Rob Melendez got the loss after allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits over four innings.
Melendez issued three walks and registered three strikeouts.
Covina got to Cristian Lazo for six runs on seven hits over 2 1/3 innings.
Lazo walked two and fanned a trio of Colts.
Donovan Johnson went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs and four RBIs.
Lucas Thorpe walked, singled twice and scored a pair of runs.
Evan Chavez went 2-for-5 with a double, run and one RBI.
Aaron Magdaleno singled and scored.
Isaac Flores went 3-for-4 with an RBI and one run scored.
Aiden Ayala drew two walks, scored twice and had one RBI.
Alexander Galaviz went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Ethan Echeverria walked and singled.
Aaron Cordova went 1-for-3 with a walk, run and one RBI.
Angel Solis scored once for CHS.
