College Baseball:
The University of La Verne had a rough start to their three-game SCIAC series with their visitors from Cal Lutheran.
The Kingsmen pounded out a 15-6 victory at Ben Hines Field, and they collected 15 hits, including at least one off eight of the Leopards nine pitchers who saw action on Friday.
Fast forward one day, and La Verne left Thousand Oaks with victories of 10-6 and 13-5, respectively.
The two wins allowed ULV to catch Cal Lutheran and Pomona Pitzer in the SCIAC standings.
All three sit at 9-6 in conference play, and they trail Claremont-Mudd Scripps and Redlands, who are tied for first place at 12-6.
Game One Notes (ULV 10, Cal Lu 6):
La Verne trailed 6-4 as they grabbed their bats in the top of the ninth, but they responded with six runs to pull away.
Aidan Buntich got the loss after surrendering five runs on two hits and three walks without retiring a single batter.
Nathan Perry hit a solo home run in the eighth and had an RBI single in the ninth.
Aidan Salcedo went 2-for-5 with a run and one RBI.
Ryan Vosika walked, had an RBI ground out, drew a bases loaded walk and scored.
Jake Ledford went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.
Aaron Whobrey walked, singled and scored a pair of runs.
Lucas Zayac went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and scored one run.
Alek Bautista drew a pair of walks and scored two runs.
Isaiah Figueroa drove in a ninth inning run on sac fly.
Christian Takahashi singled, scored and drew a bases loaded walk.
Corbin Duffield went three innings and he surrendered four runs on four hits and three hit batters.
Zenen Pena provided two innings of relief and he was charged with two runs on three hits and a hit batter.
Justin Ries got the win after his three scoreless and hitless innings.
Ries didn’t issue a walk and registered three strikeouts.
Nico Hamilton got two of his three ninth-inning outs via strikeout.
Wyatt Crosby singled, doubled, hit a solo home run and scored three times.
Wes Lynch had an RBI double.
Lucas Danielewicz singled, scored and drove in a run on a third inning sac fly.
Jacob Blickenderfer was hit by pitch with the bases loaded and scored.
Kai Caranto drove in a run on a sac fly.
Game Two Notes (ULV 13, Cal Lu 5):
La Verne earned the doubleheader sweep thanks to nine total runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Jack Holguin went five innings and allowed three runs on five hits.
Holguin issued three walks and registered five strikeouts.
Rudy O’Dell was charged with two runs on four hits over 2 1/3 innings.
O’Dell walked one and fanned four Kingsmen.
Nico Hamilton provided 1 2/3 scoreless and hitless innings, while striking out two batters.
Philip Jeong drove in three runs on a sac fly and a two-run double.
Kai Caranto singled, doubled and scored.
Wyatt Crosby walked and singled in a run.
Justin Jeong and Owen Nelson doubled and scored one run apiece.
Elias Rubio singled and scored.
Colten Hanson was saddled with the loss after allowing seven runs on five hits and two hit batters.
Hanson walked two and fanned a pair of Leopards.
Nathan Perry went 2-for-5 with a walk, double and three RBIs.
