Baseball:
Three Damien batters combined on a five-hit shutout in Wednesday’s 2-0 Baseline League victory at Rancho Cucamonga.
Jacob Campos went five scoreless innings to earn the win, and he surrendered just a pair of singles.
Campos didn’t issue a walk and registered five strikeouts.
Ethan Chavez and Bryce Eddy provided one scoreless inning apiece in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively.
Rowan Suchanek, Grant Thomas, Beau Briggs, Trevor Newman and Jared Mock had one single apiece to account for the RCHS offense.
Grant Thomas was charged with the loss after surrendering two runs (one earned) on five hits over 5 1/3 innings.
Thomas walked one and struck out six Damien batters.
Tanner Henne provided 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief and allowed one hit.
With the game tied at 0-0, Gino Tarzia hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning.
Tyler Swilling went 2-for-3, including an RBI single in the sixth.
Michael Mansour had a pair of singles.
Brady Bickham singled and scored.
Up next: The Spartans and Cougars meet up on Saturday evening at 5 at at LoanMart Field in Rancho Cucamonga.
