College Baseball:
The University of La Verne secured a doubleheader sweep over Caltech on Saturday by scores of 13-3 and 15-0.
Both games lasted seven innings.
The Leopards had a standout in both games.
Game One Notes:
Arjun Pradhan got the loss after allowing seven runs (five earned) on eight hits over three innings.
Pradhan issued one walk and struck out one.
Aidan Salcedo doubled four times, scored three runs and drove in two.
Nathan Perry had an RBI single, a two-run triple, an RBI ground out and scored a pair of runs.
Ryan Vosika singled twice, doubled and scored three runs from the leadoff spot.
Aaron Whobrey went 2-for-4 with three runs and an RBI.
Zachary Janczyk had a two-run double in the seventh.
Jacob Castro walked, singled and scored.
Jake Ledford singled in a run.
RJ Libby drove in a run on a sac fly.
Corbin Duffield got the win after going six innings and allowing three runs on five hits.
Duffield issued one walk and registered four strikeouts.
Justin Ries got the final three outs, including one via strikeout.
Mark Hu had an RBI single, and RBI triple and scored.
Quinn Hartman singled, doubled and scored two runs.
Kailen Hargenrader singled once in the loss.
Game Two Notes:
Former Etiwanda pitcher Jack Holguin tossed a seven-inning no-hitter.
Holguin was one hit batter away from throwing a perfect game.
He didn’t issue a walk and tallied 10 strikeouts.
Holguin got seven Beavers on strikes at least once, and he fanned Riley Foard, William Minatel and Levi Alderete twice.
Lucas Favretto was roughed up for eight runs (seven earned) on four hits over three innings of work.
Favretto walked two and fanned a pair of ULV batters.
Nathan Perry walked, singled and scored a pair of runs.
RJ Libby drew a pair of walks, scored three runs and had a two-run single in the first inning.
Levi Altimarano singled in a run.
Aaron Whobrey walked, was hit by pitch and scored.
Aidan Salcedo was hit by pitch, had an RBI fielder’s choice and scored.
Jake Ledford went 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs and three RBIs.
Alek Bautista was plunked three times, and he scored three runs.
Thomas Villanueva was hit by pitch, singled and scored a pair of runs.
Daniel Moreno had a two-run single.
Lucas Zayac singled in a pair of runs and scored.
Roman Miranda had an RBI single.
Up next: La Verne will host Cal Lutheran on Friday at 3 in the first of a three-game SCIAC series.
